Apple Pay with Axis Bank cards: Do you still earn reward points and EDGE Miles? (2026)

Apple Pay with Axis Bank cards: do you still earn reward points and EDGE Miles, on a PointsFly banner

It took Apple Pay more than a decade to get here, but it went live in India on 30 September 2026. Only Axis has signed up so far. If you carry an Axis card, you’ve probably already wondered: tap the phone instead of the card, and do my points vanish?

They don’t. Still, “no” on its own isn’t much help. Which reward currency does your card earn? What’s it actually worth in rupees? Do Apple Pay spends count toward your milestones? Let’s go through all of it.

Key takeaways

Right now, only Axis credit cards on Visa or Mastercard can go into Apple Wallet.

Points or miles land just as they would if you’d swiped.

Banks see it as a card purchase, not a wallet top-up, so that exclusion doesn’t bite.

An EDGE Reward Point fetches roughly 20 paise in vouchers, and more if you move it to an airline.

Every tap counts toward your yearly spend, which helps with milestones and fee waivers.

Apple Pay in India: A quick recap

Does Apple Pay work in India? It does now. Here’s which cards made the cut:

Spot the contactless symbol at a counter? You can tap. Same goes for apps and websites with an Apple Pay button at checkout. Blinkit, Zomato, Croma, Chaayos and Apple’s own stores were among the first to sign on.

Do you earn reward points with Apple Pay?

Yes. Axis says it plainly in its Apple Pay FAQ: every Apple Pay purchase earns “the same EDGE Reward points, cashback, and card benefits as a physical card purchase, at your card’s standard reward rate.”

So whatever your card earns today, whether that’s EDGE Reward Points, EDGE Miles or cashback, you’ll get exactly that on Apple Pay. Nothing extra. Nothing less.

Why Apple Pay isn’t treated as a wallet load

This is the part that confuses people. Apple Pay sounds like a wallet, and wallet loads usually earn nothing on Axis cards.

But Apple Pay doesn’t hold any money. When you add your Axis card, your iPhone stores a device-specific number for it. When you pay, the shop charges your actual Axis credit card, just like it would if you’d tapped the plastic.

So on your statement, it shows up as a regular purchase at that shop. Not a top-up. That’s why it earns like a regular purchase.

EDGE Reward Points vs EDGE Miles: Which does your card earn?

Axis actually has two reward currencies. The one piling up in your account depends on the card you carry.

  • EDGE Reward Points: Magnus, Reserve, Select, Privilege, Rewards and similar cards
  • EDGE Miles: travel cards like Atlas, Horizon and Olympus

Here’s how the popular ones compare on regular spends:

Earn rates from Axis Bank’s card pages, checked 5 October 2026. Banks change these often, so check your card’s latest terms too.

Every one of these rates applies on Apple Pay exactly as it does on the card.

What earns (and what doesn’t) on Apple Pay

Your card’s exclusions still apply

Apple Pay can’t turn an excluded spend into a rewarding one. If your card skips a category, it’ll skip it on Apple Pay too.

Axis’s terms for Atlas and Magnus both leave out fuel, rent, wallet loads, insurance, utilities and telecom, government payments, and gold and jewellery. Select also excludes education and gift cards. And on most cards, points earned on a purchase are taken back if you later convert it to EMI.

Bonus categories follow the merchant

Your bonus rate depends on the kind of shop you pay, not how you pay. Banks sort merchants into categories (airlines, hotels, restaurants and so on), and that category decides what you earn.

That’s good news for travel cards. Atlas pays its travel rate (5 EDGE Miles per ₹100, up to ₹2 lakh a month) based on the airline or hotel merchant code, plus Travel EDGE bookings. So booking a flight in an airline’s app with Apple Pay should still go through as an airline purchase and earn that rate.

Online-only partner bonuses stay online

Some Axis cards pay extra only on certain partner sites or apps. Think 5% on Flipkart with the Flipkart Axis card, or bonus earn through the Travel EDGE portal. Those happen online. Tap your phone at a shop counter, and you’re on the card’s regular rate.

Our tip: after your first few Apple Pay purchases, check that the points landed the way you expected. We’ll show you how further down.

Do Apple Pay spends count toward milestones and fee waivers?

They should. An Apple Pay purchase is a normal card spend at that shop, so it adds to your total for the month and the year.

That matters on cards with milestones. Atlas gives 2,500 bonus EDGE Miles once you spend ₹3 lakh in a card year, another 2,500 at ₹7.5 lakh and 5,000 more at ₹15 lakh. Every rupee you tap on eligible spends moves you closer.

Fee waivers tied to yearly spend work the same way. One catch, though, and it has nothing to do with Apple Pay: Atlas leaves fuel, rent, wallet loads, insurance, utilities, government payments and gold out of its milestone count, and other cards have similar rules.

Caps don’t change. If your card limits accelerated earn to ₹2 lakh a month, Apple Pay spends share that same limit.

What is 1 EDGE Reward Point worth?

Cash in an EDGE Reward Point for vouchers or products and you’ll get roughly 20 paise. Send that same point to an airline from a card like Magnus, and it’s closer to 40 paise, sometimes more. EDGE Miles are simpler: ₹1 each on Axis Travel EDGE, and as much as ₹2 if you transfer them smartly.

Not all redemptions are equal. The same point can be worth double depending on where it goes:

What 1,000 and 5,000 points are worth

  • 1,000 EDGE Reward Points: about ₹200 as vouchers, or around ₹400 if you transfer them on Magnus
  • 5,000 EDGE Reward Points: about ₹1,000 as vouchers, or around ₹2,000 via transfers (that’s 2,000 airline miles at 5:2)
  • 1,000 EDGE Miles on Atlas: ₹1,000 on Travel EDGE, or 2,000 partner miles at 1:2

Example: ₹50,000 a month on Apple Pay

Say you put ₹50,000 a month of everyday spends on Apple Pay. That’s ₹6 lakh a year.

With Axis Atlas:

  • 2 EDGE Miles per ₹100 = 12,000 EDGE Miles
  • Plus 2,500 milestone miles at ₹3 lakh
  • Total: 14,500 EDGE Miles, worth ₹14,500 on Travel EDGE or 29,000 partner miles at 1:2

With Axis Magnus:

  • 12 EDGE Reward Points per ₹200 = 36,000 points
  • As vouchers at about 20 paise: around ₹7,200
  • Transferred at 5:2: 14,400 partner miles

Same spend. Same phone. What you do with the points afterwards makes the bigger difference.

How to redeem your Axis points for the best value

There are three ways to spend your points, and they’re not worth the same. Here they are, worst to best.

  1. EDGE Rewards store or Pay By Rewards: open Reward Points in the Axis Mobile app (or internet banking) and grab a voucher, a product, or use points against your card bill. Quick and painless, though you’ll rarely beat 20 paise a point.
  2. Axis Travel EDGE: book flights and hotels using points, or points plus your card. EDGE Miles get ₹1 each here.
  3. Transfer to partners: shift your points or miles into an airline or hotel programme and book an award flight or room. Done right, this beats the other two by a mile (pun intended).

A few rules worth knowing: you need at least 300 EDGE Reward Points or 500 EDGE Miles to transfer or to book on Travel EDGE, transfers can’t be reversed, and Axis caps how much you can send to partners each year.

Before you transfer, check the latest ratios in our Axis transfer partners update. Axis has changed them more than once this year.

Which Axis card should you put in Apple Wallet?

If you have more than one Axis card, add them all. Then set the card that earns the most on your everyday spends as your default (Settings → Wallet & Apple Pay → Default Card).

Quick picks:

  • You redeem for flights and hotels: Atlas or Magnus
  • You want simple miles with a smaller fee: Horizon
  • You mostly shop and eat out locally: Select
  • Your only Axis card is Flipkart Axis or Airtel Axis: go ahead, but expect 1% at most shop counters

Paying somewhere another card earns more? Swipe to that card before you tap. It takes two seconds.

How to check your points landed

Points don’t show up the second you tap. On Atlas, for example, Axis says miles can take up to 12 days to reflect. To check:

  1. Open the Axis Mobile app.
  2. Go to the menu and tap Reward Points (or log in to internet banking and open EDGE Rewards from your profile).
  3. Look for the points against your recent purchases.

Your monthly statement also shows what you earned that billing cycle.

Purchase didn’t earn what you expected? Check two things first. Was the shop in an excluded category? Was it a bonus you’d only get on a partner site? If it’s neither, raise it with Axis customer care.

EDGE Reward Points and EDGE Miles stay valid for 3 years from when you earn them. One thing to watch: Axis’s EDGE Rewards terms say points can also expire if your account has no earning transaction for 365 days. Using your card regularly (Apple Pay included) keeps that from happening.

Before you tap: Two settings to switch on

A common reason an Apple Pay payment fails is a card setting, not Apple Pay itself.

  1. Turn on “Tap and Pay” under Manage Usage Limits in the Axis Mobile app. You need this to pay in stores.
  2. Turn on “Online Shopping” in the same place. Apps and websites need it.

Your Apple Pay limit for in-store taps is the same as your physical card’s contactless limit.

Adding your card takes about two minutes:

  1. Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the + in the top right.
  3. Choose Debit or Credit Card and tap Continue.
  4. Hold your Axis credit card to the back of your iPhone, or type in the details.
  5. Accept the terms.
  6. Verify with the OTP Axis sends you, or through the Axis Mobile app.

You can also start from the Axis Mobile app: pick your card and tap “Add to Apple Wallet”. For Axis’s own guide, see the Axis Bank Apple Pay page.

What about RuPay cards and UPI?

Not yet. Apple Pay in India only works with Axis Visa and Mastercard credit cards. If you hold an Axis RuPay credit card, you can still use it on UPI. It just can’t go into Apple Wallet for now.

So a lot of people will end up using both: a Visa or Mastercard card on Apple Pay at the counter, and a RuPay card on UPI for QR payments. Which one earns you more? That’s coming in our next post.

We pulled this from Apple’s 30 Sep 2026 announcement, Axis’s Apple Pay page and FAQs, Axis card pages (Atlas, Horizon, Magnus, Select) and EDGE Rewards terms, all checked on 5 October 2026. Point values are our estimates, since Axis doesn’t publish a rupee value for EDGE Reward Points. Banks tweak earn rates and features, so give the latest terms a look before you apply or redeem.

Make every tap count

Apple Pay doesn’t change what your Axis card earns. What you do with those points does. Add your cards to PointsFly, and AIRA shows you which card to tap for each kind of spend and where your EDGE points and miles go furthest.
